Background

Wake Documentary Screenings & Panel Discussions

Brandywine young alumnus, Jake Mejias '21, recently produced a documentary, Wake, surrounding the aftermath of George Floyd's murder and the protests that followed in Philadelphia, PA. The film sparks important discussions surrounding systemic racism and the inequalities minorities face in America.

We are very proud to host our students, faculty, staff, and community for two campus screenings and panel discussions on February 3 and February 10. Both screenings will be followed by a panel who will participate in a Q&A session as well as react to the film and curate a thoughtful discussion among other panelists and attendees.

SYNOPSIS:

Rapper and college student Joshua Yeboah-Gyasi decided to take a knee in front of Philadelphia’s City Hall the week of George Floyd’s murder. These events lead to a deeper discussion about systemic racism and the inequalities minorities face in America.
