Join us for an evening of networking and discussion with Smeal alumni and friends. Dean Charles H. Whiteman will share some of the latest highlights from Happy Valley and then interview Julie McHugh ('86 Finance), Biopharmaceutical Industry Senior Executive (retired). Smeal Alumni Career Services will be in attendance providing resources and support for alumni who are presently on a job search or thinking of a career transition. The cost of the event is $20 and includes hors d'oeuvres and drinks. Dress is business casual. Julie McHugh is a 32-year veteran of the biopharmaceutical industry. Prior to her retirement, she was the chief operating officer at Endo Health Solutions, where she was responsible for the pharmaceutical and generic drug businesses. Previously, McHugh held executive positions including CEO of Nora Therapeutics, Company Group Chairman at Johnson & Johnson, and president of Centocor. During her career, McHugh spearheaded the development and commercialization of breakthrough products for the treatment of cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, autoimmune, and infectious diseases. Her background includes experience in general management, strategic planning, research and development, mergers and acquisitions, and organizational design. Her leadership roles have included multi-billion dollar businesses with several thousand employees as well as start-ups. McHugh currently serves on the board of directors for Xellia Pharmaceuticals, Ironwood Pharmaceuticals, Trevena Pharmaceuticals, Aerie Pharmaceuticals, and Lantheus Medical Imaging. In addition, she is on the strategic advisory board of HealthCare Royalty Partners and has participated on several trade association and non-profit boards. McHugh is the chairman of the Smeal College of Business Board of Visitors and is the co-chair for the Penn State Parent Philanthropy Council. She was a campaign volunteer for Penn State’s For the Future campaign, and she and her husband, Michael ’82, have made philanthropic investments to encourage entrepreneurship, study abroad programs, and scholarship in the Smeal College of Business. In 2016, she received the college’s Distinguished Achievement Award and in 2018, she received the Penn State Alumni Fellow Award. McHugh lives in Lower Gwynedd, Pennsylvania, with Michael. Their daughter Emily is a 2018 graduate of the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State.
