Alumni Expert Series: Women in Leadership: Sharing Experiences and Advice to Empower Other Women

Meet our panel of inspiring women for a thought-provoking session on women in leadership. Panelists will take us through their leadership journeys and experiences that have been influential in their careers. We will have a conversation on topics such as work/life balance, fears, strengths, imposter syndrome, and empowerment. The panelists will also share their perspectives on how women can shape the workplace for future generations.

Panelists:

Keshia Davis: Keshia Davis is an alumnus of Penn State’s Smeal College of Business where she majored in Business Economics. Shortly after her undergraduate experience, Keshia earned a post-baccalaureate certificate from the Wharton School of Business in Business Essentials. Keshia also earned an MBA in International Business at St. Joseph’s University.

Keshia has 20 years of business experience in sales, marketing, business transformation, IT, and operations. In 2018, Keshia acquired her aunt’s bakery Denise’s Delicacies which has been a staple in the Philadelphia community for over 30 years. Although Keshia has had varying experiences in the corporate world, she has been working in the bakery environment at Denise’s Delicacies with her Aunt Denise since she was a teenager. Over the years, Keshia has had numerous responsibilities at the bakery including baker, cake decorator, cashier, production manager, marketing consultant, management consultant, IT consultant, and now Co-Owner.

In addition to managing her responsibilities as the Co-Owner of Denise’s, Keshia also currently serves as the Board Vice-President of the Legacy of Love Foundation, Inc. and is an active member of the Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Amanda Mortimer: Amanda Mortimer is the Managing Member and 2nd generation business owner of Innovative Development which was founded 30 years ago. ID provides strategic business process and technology solutions to clients globally with offices in the US and UK. ID specializes in eDiscovery, Data Management, AWS/Cloud Solutions, Information Governance and Project Management solutions ‘Shaped to Fit’ client needs. Our business process methodology fuses best practices in operational innovation, responsiveness, and flexibility producing cost-effective results.

Amanda is passionate about supporting women in entrepreneurship, women in STEM, and women in leadership through organizations such as WBEC East, Women in Bio, Business Professional Women, and more.

She received her Master of Science in Human Resources Development from Villanova University in 2012 and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Sociology from The Pennsylvania State University in 2009. She currently serves as Chair of the NextGen Committee at WBEC East and is a volunteer with the Women in Bio- Philadelphia Chapter Mentorship, Advisory, Peers, and Sponsorship group.

Susan Robinson: Susan Robinson is a quintessential leader who shifts thinking, elevates potential, and inspires action. She is making an impact on the world in a truly unique way. As a keynote speaker and business advisor, Susan masterfully blends 25+ years of multisector leadership with her experiences being legally blind. She works with executive leaders of global firms and Fortune 500 companies, top not-for-profits, leading universities, and the United Nations. Her work increases relevance, revenue, and reputation for her clients and impacts the lives of people in 130+ countries.

Susan is a professional speaker. Her TED Talk “How I fail at being disabled,” has garnered over 1.5M views, Susan humorously weaves a meaningful narrative and flips generally-accepted ideas upside down to uncover, challenge and redefine possibility. Susan focuses her audiences on salient issues and ambitious outcomes, building bridges to dedicated action and instilling confidence for their success.

Susan is an Executive Board Member of the Penn State Alumni Association's Alumni Council and a Board Member of both the New York State Preferred Source Program for People Who Are Blind and In Tandem Cycling. She received her Master of Public Administration, specializing in Health Policy and Management, from New York University, and her Bachelor of Science, Health Policy and Administration, with minors in Business and Economics, from The Pennsylvania State University.
